bands, those funny little plans, that never work quite right

jonathan

follow your bliss

joseph campbell

bill moyers: do you ever have the sense of... being helped by hidden hands?

joseph campbell: all the time. it is miraculous. i even have a superstition that has grown on me as a result of invisible hands coming all the time - namely, that if you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. when you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. i say, follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be.

* * *

my general formula for my students is "follow your bliss." find where it is, and don't be afraid to follow it.

if you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. wherever you are -- if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time.

* * *

now, i came to this idea of bliss because in sanskrit, which is the great spiritual language of the world, there are three terms that represent the brink, the jumping-off place to the ocean of transcendence: sat-chit-ananda. the word "sat" means being. "chit" means consciousness. "ananda" means bliss or rapture. i thought, "i don't know whether my consciousness is proper consciousness or not; i don't know whether what i know of my being is my proper being or not; but i do know where my rapture is. so let me hang on to rapture, and that will bring me both my consciousness and my being." i think it worked.

logo mais, em curitiba.

...

into a dream, i took a turn, an' promised t' return
th' way we were, th' way we met, th' way i lit yr cigarette
th' way it trailed, into a stream, an' lay down between...
you had t' choose, a side t' love, an' divide yerself in two
th' way you were, long before, you were a walkin' civil war
but you forget, where th' road goes, an' tonite it shows...
into yr soul, i tried t' climb, but found th' hole t' high
for me t' leave, th' way i'd learned, an' found i couldn't turn
th' way th' trees, an' fallin' rain, remind me in a way...
th' way you were, th' day we met, th' way i lit your cigarette
th' way it changed, into a strange, cole porter phrase
but you forget, how th' song goes, an' tonite it shows...

[song of the day : note to self]

who killed bambi?

sex pistols

gentle pretty thing
who only had one spring
you bravely faced the world
ready for anything
i'm happy that you lived
for your life is mine
what have i except to cry
spirit never die
birds of the air
beasts of the earth
overjoyed at bambi's birth they gambolled in the glade

who killed bambi?

murder murder murder
someone should be angry
the crime of the century
who shot little bambi
never trust a hippie
'cause i love punky bambi
i'll kill to find the killer
in that rotten roll army
all the spikey punkers
believers in the ruins
with one big shout
they all cry out
who killed bambi?

eu quero este livro.

amor?

...

Edward D. Wood, Jr.
Your film will be 46% romantic, 23% comedy, 34% complex plot, and a $ 19 million budget.

Ed Wood will get your film done waaaaay under budget, and will likely
make it into a classic film of all time -- for all the wrong reasons.
His resume includes classics such as Plan Nine From Outer Space and
Glen or Glenda? He's not afraid to tackle controversial topics, and may
insist on portraying a transvestite in your film -- even if you've
never seen a transvestite before. He was immortalized in the Academy
Award winning Tim Burton film, Ed Wood -- go see it.

This test tracked 4 variables. How the score compared to the other people's:
Higher than 13% on action-romance
Higher than 7% on humor
Higher than 36% on complexity
Higher than 1% on budget
